Easter trading under COVID

Published 02 Apr 2020

Easter is nearly upon us. Good Friday is observed next week - Friday 10th April 2020, and Easter Sunday follows on April 12, then Easter Monday after that. Both Good Friday & Easter Sunday are usually non-trading days in NZ, however, given the lockdown situation with CONVID-19 the Government has announced that Supermarkets are able to trade on the Sunday, but not the Friday. They have not however over-ruled the Sale of Liquor Act and alcohol will not be available.

Aside from that the usual rules apply: Good Friday and Easter Monday are Public Holidays, Easter Sunday is not. You must have express permission from your staff that they will work on Easter Sunday if you need them to, in which case it will be a normal day for payment purposes.
