Monday February 6th 2017 is the Public Holiday Waitangi Day. If the Employee works on a public holiday and that day would be the Employee's normal day of work, then in addition to payment for the above at 'time and a half', the Employee is entitled to an alternative holiday (which will be paid, when taken, at the Employee's relevant daily pay for the day off).

The Employment Court has recently reviewed the level of deduction that can be made to an award of penalties because of the contributory fault of the dismissed employee. Previously if an Employee’s behaviour was considered causative and blameworthy 100% reduction in award could occur....full story

The Government has accepted recommendations of a Joint Working Group to legislate how pay equity claims can be raised and resolved. This means that the Equal Pay Act and Employment Relations Act will be updated to make it easier for employees to file pay equity claims with their employers, rather than having to go through the courts....full story
