So we see the 4 main Public Holidays landing on weekends this year. This brings the potential for 'Mondayising' and 'Tuesdayising' all of those days.
As usual with Public Holidays you need to consider whether or not it is a normal working day for the employee in question. Generally, if people normally work weekends, these Public Holiday will also be recognised on those days and not moved. So if you require them to work on those days (bearing in mind Christmas Day is also a restricted shop trading day) you will need to pay them 1.5x normal rates plus a full day in lieu.
If people don't normally work weekends, all four of the upcoming days get recognised on the following Mondays and Tuesdays and people get a paid day off accordingly (unless required to work).
When people are on annual leave, albeit due to a company close-down, the Public Holidays should not be deducted from staff's leave.
While these lists have been compiled from Governmental information as provided, in good faith, we don't give guarantees of absolute accuracy.
For more information on this and Holidays in general see the Annual Holidays and Leave ebook. This provides in depth information on Annual Holidays (leave and holiday pay), Public Holidays, Sick and Bereavement Leave, explanations of Relevant Daily Pay, Average Daily Pay, Gross Earnings, Ordinary Weekly Pay etc. It is available for purchasing and downloading online. It is free for Employer Support Package subscribers who can download it from the Dashboard Library section of the Employers Toolbox(www.EmployersToolbox.co.nz)
